Army Team Relay Tri Champs – 2019

clients-armyThe Army Triathlon Team Relay Triathlon 2019 is to be held Wednesday 11 September 2019 commencing at 1200 hours at Eton Dorney Lake.

Event. A one-lap lake swim of 300 m (wetsuits compulsory) is followed by a flat, two 5km laps on closed roads before departing for an out and back, traffic free run of 3km.  Teams of 3 will consecutively complete each stage of Swim, Bike, Run course.


Swim. The swim will be conducted in Eton Dorney Lake with the appropriate water safety cover.  The 300m swim course will be set out in advance (GPS measured) using buoys as the turn points.  Each athlete will have to complete the swim course in turn before transitioning to the bike.

Bike. The two lap bike course is on closed roads.  Each athlete will have to complete the bike course in turn before transitioning to the run.  Competitors should make note of the route which will be displayed in transition.  Static and mobile draft busters will enforce BTF drafting rules.  Approved cycle helmets are mandatory.

Run. The single out and back 3km run is flat and on tarmac.  Each athlete will have to complete the run course in turn before crossing the finish line together as a team.

Team Composition. Team composition must be aligned to the athlete’s current unit (ie 1 Regt RLC) or that which they are correctly affiliated too (ie Aldershot Garrison).  Team can be made up outside of these rules but must be entered as Guests and they will not be eligible for any of the prizes.  All athletes are encouraged to attend as teams will often have a spare place due to other commitments.

Prize Giving. The prize giving ceremony will start once the results have been finalised by DB Max but no later than 1400 hours.  All competitors are strongly encouraged to remain until the prize giving is completed.  Prizes will be awarded as follows so long as there are more than three athletes in each category:

Army Male Team. Winners.

Army Female Team. Winners.

Army Male Veterans Team (over 40). Winner.

Army Female Veterans Team (over 35). Winner.

Army Mixed Team . Winner.

Guest team (male team, female team, mixed).

Entry Process


The entry fee is £31.50 per three person team this includes a £1.50 online admin fee. There is a dedicated Army link HERE. If you are entering from DII you will need to cut the following link into Google Chrome (

Use of the online system is strongly encouraged, however last minute changes are inevitable and therefore entries on the day will be accepted. The entry fee covers the cost of the event and prizes. Online registration has been designed to be simple and secure – enter all three athletes under the single team entry.

Corporate Team Competition.  Our Sponsors and supporters are encouraged to enter as many teams as possible.  Race Entry will be ‘on the day’ for these teams

Paratriathletes and Tri-Service athletes.
The event will be open to all members of the Tri-Service community and the course will be adapted as necessary to ensure that all Paratriathletes can race.  Entry to this race by members of the other services is encouraged but it should be noted that members of the Royal Navy and RAF will not be eligible for prizes.

Our Sponsors and supporters are encouraged to enter as many teams as possible.  Race Entry will be ‘on the day’ for these teams.

All competitors will need to register in the DB Max gazebo 0900 – 1130 hours in order to receive timing chips.  On the day entries will need to register and pay prior to collecting any timing chips.

There are no age restrictions but the team must contain both male and female athletes.

Rules.  The race will be run in accordance with British Triathlon Foundation (BTF) rules[1]. Bikes are to be in a road worthy condition and approved (ANSI / SNELL) cycle helmets must be worn for the entire bike section and this includes and recces or bike testing.  Draft busters will be in operation on the course and competitors will be penalised / disqualified in accordance with BTF guidelines.

Results. The electronic timing system will be used to ensure accurate and timely results. All race details and results will appear on the DB Max events website (DB Max Results), hard copies will NOT be available on race day, however, individual timing print outs are available on the day.  DB Max also produce a live results feed which will be available for units, family and friends to follow.

Travel. All travel costs for this event are to be met by competing units using their own Budget and UIN.  The postcode for Eton Dorney Lake is SL4 6QP and directions can be found HERE.  Follow the signs to the transition and registration and note there will be limited supplies of water, shelter and changing facilities.

Army Triathlon Association Membership. Participants do not have to be members of the ATA to race but membership is strongly encouraged.  Membership only cost £10 per year, all details including benefits can be obtained from the ATA MOSS page and by speaking to membership secretary on the day.

 Summary. The Army Triathlon Team Relay Triathlon 2018 at the Eton Dorney Lake is open to Regular / Reserve service personnel, from all three Services and entitled MOD civil service personnel (who must take leave and show proof of third party liability insurance).  However, only Army personnel will be eligible for prizes.  This event is a particularly good event for novices or athletes wanting to experience their first open water swim or multi-sport race.  Further details can be gained from DB Max or through the ATA MOSS page.  Please encourage online entry and any queries should be directed to the undersigned in the first instance.
