Inter Unit & Individual Standard Distance Triathlon

clients-armyThe Inter-Unit and Individual Standard Distance Triathlon 2019 will be held on Wednesday 26 June 2019 commencing at 1110 hours at Cotswold Water Park, Lake 32.  In addition to an Inter Corps category other Corps may decide to use this event as their Corps Champs. The race will be held on public roads and is a non-drafting event.

This standard distance triathlon will be conducted at Cotswold Water Park, Lake 32 and is open to all Regular / Reserve service personnel and entitled MoD civil service personnel. This event is open to all standards of athlete and units are encouraged to allow individuals and teams to take part in this multi-sport race.


The compulsory wetsuits swim will take place at Lake 32 with the appropriate water safety cover.  The 1500m swim course will be set out in advance (GPS measured) using buoys as the turn points. The swim will have a split start; men first then 10 mins later the ladies will start.


The cycle route is 41km route on public roads and all athletes are to obey the normal laws of the road at all times. Competitors should make note of the route which will be signed and marshalled.  Static and mobile draft busters will enforce British Triathlon Foundation (BTF) drafting rules.  Approved cycle helmets are mandatory.

The 10km run is three laps of the Cotswold Water Park lake complex. Once gain this will be signed and marshalled.  Please take care on this run as the complex is open to the public.

Inter-Unit Team (Major / Minor) Competition.  Units are encouraged to enter as many teams as possible.  The team competition will be organised and based on the following categories:

Major Unit Team.  Four athletes to count.

Minor Unit Team.  Three athletes to count.

Prize Giving. The prize giving ceremony will start once the results have been finalised by DB Max and the ATA Events Manager but no later than 1430 hours.  All competitors are strongly encouraged to remain until the prize giving is complete.  This prize giving will commence with the Army awards followed by the REME awards.  Prizes will be awarded as follows so long as there are more than three athletes in each category:

Male Open. First, Second and Third.

Female Open. First, Second and Third.

Male Masters* (over 40).      

Female Masters* (over 35).

Male Super Master* (over 45).

Female Super Masters* (over 40).

Major Unit.

Minor Unit.

Entry Process.


The entry fee is £21.06 per entrant this includes a £1 online admin fee. Enter on the button below:


Use of the online system is strongly encouraged, however last-minute changes are inevitable and therefore entries on the day will be accepted. The entry fee covers the cost of the event, individual and team prizes. Online registration has been designed to be simple and secure – each entry must be done individually so that timing chip numbers can be allocated.

The online process has been streamlined but due to the huge amount of changes in unit names and some may not be listed. If your unit or cap badge is not listed in the drop-down list you are to add a comment to the Army Triathlon Association (Members) Facebook page. Once the unit has been created you will be emailed / replied to on Facebook.

On the day entry. Cheques are to be made to Army Triathlon Association the fee will be £25 per entrant.  On the day entry close at 1030 hours.

Para-triathletes and Tri-Service athletes.  The event will be open to all members of the Tri-Service community and the course will be adapted as necessary to ensure that all para-triathletes can race.  Entry to this race by members of the other services is encouraged but it should be noted that members of the Royal Navy and RAF will not be eligible for prizes.

Registration.  All competitors will need to register in the DB Max gazebo 0900 – 1030 hours to receive timing chips.


Ser Event Timing Remarks

Rules.  The race will be run in accordance with British Triathlon Foundation (BTF) rules[1]. Bikes are to be in a road worthy condition and approved (ANSI / SNELL) cycle helmets must be worn for the entire cycle section.  Draft busters will be in operation on the course and competitors will be penalised / disqualified in accordance with BTF guidelines.

Results. The electronic timing system will be used to ensure accurate and timely results. All race details and results will appear on the DB Max events website.

Travel. All travel costs for this event are to be met by competing units using their own Budget and UIN.  The postcode for Cotswold Water Park, Lake 32 is GL7 6DF and directions can be found HERE[2].  Follow the signs to the transition and registration and note there will be limited supplies of water, shelter and changing facilities.

Insurance.  All athletes are advised to have their own third-party liability insurance, accident and legal costs insurance cover.

Army Triathlon Association Membership. Participants are required to be members of the ATA to race, this race is traditionally billed as the Army Club Championship (Membership is mandatory for all Army members racing).  Membership only costs £10 per year. Benefits included being eligible for ASL funding and lots of discounts to a wide range of products. If you have entered on line but are not a member you will need to ensure your join at the ATA gazebo  before proceeding to the DB Max tent to collect your timing chip.  A full list of up to date members will be displayed at the ATA gazebo.

 Summary. The Army Triathlon Inter-Unit and Individual Standard Distance Triathlon will take place at Lake 32, Cotswold Water Park and is open to Regular / Reserve service personnel, from all three Services and entitled MOD civil service personnel (who must take leave and show proof of third party liability insurance).  However, only Army personnel will be eligible for prizes.  Please encourage online entry and any queries should be directed to the undersigned in the first instance.
