Event: The MOTI Mizuno Bradford on Avon Triathlon - Race 1

Event Details:

The MOTI Mizuno Bradford on Avon triathlon is back for its second year and 2010 sees the introduction of an open water swim.

The event is set in the beautiful, historic town in Wiltshire and the 750m river swim takes place in the Rive Avon. The 20k bike is a technical and scenic hilly route around the surrounding villages and the 5k run a fast, ‘out and back’ run along the canal tow path.

The race forms part of DB Max’s West Wilts Triathlon Series and will also be part of an action packed weekend in the town – the line-up includes the Bradford on Avon 10k, a quadrathlon, a Tri Star aquathlon and a scootathlon, as well as a pasta party, stalls and entertainment.

Race Distance
Triathlon: 750m open water swim (river swim), 20k bike, 5k run (out and back flat run).

Race Start
Wave starts from 8:00 to 9:15.

Online entry price: £35 BTF, £39 Unnattached.

Venue
Barton Farm Country Park.
Barton Farm Country Park is well sign posted and is located off the B3109 on the edge of the historic town of Bradford on Avon. Ample parking is available at the nearby railway station (postcode BA15 1DF).

Registration & Brieifng Instructions
Registration Times: From 7:00.
Briefing Times: Five minutes prior to race start.
Race numbers and timing chips will be collected from the registration desk on race day. Details of allocated bib numbers will be available online prior to the event and will also be displayed in the registration area at the venue.
BTF members must show a valid BTF licence at registration or purchase a day licence (£3).
Competitors must attend the race briefing on the day. Information on the course and rules relative to competitor safety will be outlined, as well as important BTF information. Please also take the time to read the BTF Rules.
Competitors may not race with somebody else’s number.

Timing Transponders
Please attach the timing transponder (MYLAPS ProChip) firmly to your left ankle with the strap provided (chip fitting instructions). This will ensure that all finish results (as well as splits and lap times) are collected by the system. Timing chips will be collected in the finish funnel or marquee immediately at the end of the race.
Please return your timing chip as soon as you finish (even if you do not complete your race). Lost and unreturned timing chips will be invoiced at £75 each.

Adult races are non-drafting and are normally policed by our BTF motorbike referee. Please do not draft and please race fairly according to the BTF Rules.
Please attach your bib number to your front while racing so that it can be clearly seen. Race belts may also be used and will be available to purchase from the MOTI expo shop on the day. Bib numbers cannot be folded.

Open Water Swimming Information
The water quality of the River Avon is listed as good or very good by the Environment Agency. However, as with all lake and river swimming, the following steps can be taken to help protect yourself from illness or disease.

• Cover any open wounds before entering the water.
• Do not enter the water if you have a wound which will not stop bleeding.
• Avoid swallowing any of the river water during your swim.
• If you cut yourself whilst swimming, please inform a race marshal immediately.

If after the swim you suffer from any of the following symptoms, please report to your GP or local A&E immediately, and advise of your condition.

1. Diarrhea
2. Flu-like symptoms
3. Loss of appetite
4. Substantial loss of weight
5. Nausea
6. Abdominal discomfort
7. Fever
8. Severe Headaches

That said, many, many people swim in lakes and rivers in the UK every year. A top tip from our DB Max swim coach, utilised by many triathletes and swimmers, is to drink a can of coke after your race.
