We've split the adult duathlon into two waves to give you more track to race round on your bike. If you're a fast man and you're showing currently in Wave 1 (race line-up), drop us an email to be put in Wave 2 (or vice versa). All the girls are in Wave 1.

February 16th
DB Max are proud to announce a new partnership with The Big Adventure Store as title sponsors of our Castle Combe Duathlon Series for 2009.
Many of our regular Castle Combe competitors will already know the TBAS team, as they've been hosting their extensive mobile shop at DB Max events for over a year now. However, their main premises are at their multi-sport store based in Swindon, where they specialise in running, triathlon and adventure racing, stocking a vast range of multisport products, bikes, accessories and sports nutrition. They also provide video gait analysis, bike fits and a cycle workshop as a one-stop superstore for the multisport needs of everyone from beginner to seasoned pro.
As sponsors of the Castle Combe Duathlon Series, the TBAS team will be on site at the three Castle Combe Duathlons in 2009 (starting March 1st) with their mobile shop and bike maintenance stand. Last minute bike tweaks, an emergency energy gel, or advice on a bike upgrade or running shoes, will all be taken care of on-site by Jason, Chris and the gang. There will also be a new section on our online entry page (coming soon) where you can pre-order products to collect on the morning of race day - we've got everything covered!
Add to this, the prizes that will be up for grabs for those that perform well on race day and a special series prize after the November Chilly Duathlon (which all series age-group winners will enter the hat for) and it's a top-draw partnership that looks set to improve the race-day experience at all three Castle Combe Duathlons this year.
There's still time to enter the first duathlon of the series, but if you've already entered you can now view the race line-up here.
February 5th
Yep I know, I know. You want to know how to enter the Mallory Park Triathlon and the Trowbridge Triathlon. Both very exciting events for 2009. News and online entry coming very soon I promise!

The 2009 Events calendar is now available here and entries are now open for our March 1st Castle Combe event (10k and Duathlon) here.
2009 looks set to be a big year for DB Max, with all our events to be chip timed and the prospect of bike lap splits at Castle Combe, Mallory Park and of course Reading.
Both the 10k runs and the duathlons will have their own series in 2009 and you can enter these via our online entry here.
The Mallory Park Triathlon will again host the East Midlands Championships as well as the East and West Midlands Children's Championships. The Chilly Duathlon in March will also host the South West Children's Duathlon Championships (draft legal) and the November Chilly Duathlon will again host the BUCS Championships.

November 30th
Training started again this weekend so after a bit of a break, the blog will be up and running again here.
November 29th
Online entry for the Gloucester 20 is now open here.
The twenty mile road race, organised by Gloucester AC, will be held on Sunday March 8th and DB Max Precision Timing will be providing a full chip timing service for the event.
November 25th
Hopefully you've all seen your results from Sunday's races now, which have been posted on various sites including this one.
There's one category still to announce though from the duathlon - the Team Challenge award. Ten teams were in the running and we scored it slightly differently this year, giving everyone a chance to contribute to their team, regardless of their age group. So, who were the winners..?
Was it DB Max Tri, last year's winners? Nope, they finished 3rd. How about Peter Wheddon's BAD Tri, who always turn out strong for the Chilly...? No, they came in 2nd.
This year's winners were Driven to Tri. Well done to Harry Wiltshire's team for their overall performance and finishing with a total of just 8 points.
Full results here.
November 23rd
Well done and thank you to everyone who turned out for our DB Max race in less than ideal conditions once again. As my brother said today, 'I'd never book a wedding on the same day as one of your events!'
Just got back from returning the Castle Combe Circuit to normal and uploaded some results for you. Provisional EAS 10k results here and for those of you that didn't run over the cones (?!), lap splits here. Provisional Trybike Chilly duathlon results here and bike lap splits here.
Any updates for official results will be published tomorrow.
Well done to Birmingham University in the duathlon - you guys cleaned up! Well done to Running Forever in the 10k too. Top bunch of lads and good to see you taking the trophy home.
And the Trybike TT frame hey..? Lee Rankin pulled out the hat my our BTF man Mike Newan. What are the chances....?
Hope to see you all again at Castle Combe next year. March 1st will be the first visit and we'll be back for the end of season 'Chilly' on November 22nd 2009.
November 20th
Castle Combe - November 23rd
There will be around 80 to 90 day entries available for the 10k but there are no planned day entries for the duathlon. The only chance for people desperate to race, is if there are no-shows on the day, that may provide a small number of slots in the last few minutes of the registration period for each wave - but don't count on it. You can view registration information on the race letter here.
If you have entered a race on Sunday and haven't received your race emails, then either your email address is bouncing our messages, or we couldn't read it properly and so made an error entering it on the system. Please contact will@dbmax.co.uk.
November 16th
Results from today's outing for DB Max Precision Timing, at the Cirencester Off-Road Duathlon, are available on the results page.
November 14th
Race letters are now available to view here and the race line-ups have now been updated with race numbers. Please remember your race number for registration on the day.
November 13th
Entries are still flying in for our event on November 23rd. EAS 10k numbers are up to 238 and Trybike Chilly Duathlon entries are up to 408!
So the big news is that there will be three waves for the duathlon (12.30, 13.45 and 14.05 (final wave time TBC)) and entries will be capped at 495 (three waves of approximately 165 per wave to maximise the racing experience on the bike leg). Numbers for the 10k will be capped at 355, including day entries.
The reason for the precise number limits is also so that we can prepare the timing transponders to give you those all important instant results and splits.
Race letters will be going out to those who have entered so far, tomorrow.
November 9th
Timing results from today's Bexhill Poppy Half Marathon available here. First time we've timed a wet and windy event but the good news is, the kit functioned as normal and a full set of results and splits was produced. Get in!
Updates and news for the EAS 10k and Trybike Chilly Duathlon coming this week.
October 29th
With just over three weeks to go, the current race line-up for the events at Castle Combe on November 23rd are now available at 10k and duathlon.
There's around 225 entries for the Trybike Chilly Duathlon so far and around 140 entries for the EAS 10k, with more people signing up for both events every day. Could be a record-breaking end of season event!
October 17th
Latest news and special offers from the Trybike team available here. Some top draw products and deals available, especially if you're looking for a new set of wheels!
October 16th
Six weeks to go folks until the Castle Combe Chilly!
The EAS 10k will kick off the day at 11am and the Trybike Chilly Duathlon will follow, with waves at 12.30pm and 1.45pm.
So what's new for 2008...? Well it looks set to be the biggest Chilly event to date with combined entries already over 200 and that's before the BUCS entries really start coming in. Yep, it's an official BUCS event, so the best students from Universities across the country will be out in force to compete. Will Aaron Harris's course record fall....?
But probably the most exciting news of all, is that DB Max Precision Timing will be on hand at the event, with a full chip timing service for both the EAS 10k and the Trybike Duathlon.
This will include bike lap splits for the duathlon and a 'fastest lap' challenge.
Get your entries in now online here or postal entries here.
September 3rd
DB Max Precision Timing ran a little demo tonight at the Bath Amphibians Castle Combe Duathlon. We set up a timing point on the bike course (just after the slip lane onto the circuit) and issued some of the competitors with timing chips, to demonstrate how the system can take lap splits at speed. The final timing point for bike in was just on the u-turn as you exit the circuit.
The range of athletes wearing the chips was across the board, but even with Lee Piercy hammering round the circuit at around 45kph, the system detected every one of his laps. Check out the results here.
September 2nd
Second outing for DB Max Precision Timing went very well at the weekend as we timed three different events at the NPower Games. A simultaneuous 5k and 10k run with split times included and a four-person relay event to finish off the day.
100% detection rate achieved again!
We're going to be timing our first bike event tomorrow with a demo at the Castle Combe Duathlon. Fifty lucky competitors will get to wear a timing chip, so that we can time the 5 bike laps. The plan is to set up a timing point on the circuit and take bike splits for each lap to the nearest 1000th of a second. Look out for the results tomorrow evening.
August 25th
Well it's here folks. DB Max Precision Timing provided chip timing for the Malmesbury Triathlon today and we're very proud to say that the brand spanking new equipment got all 242 competitors splits and finish with not a single passing missed.
So looks like you'll be seeing us around with our chip timing at future events and of course all future DB Max events too.
Full results from the Malmesbury Triathlon are available here and also in PDF format here. More details on DB Max Precision Timing here.
August 16th

August 11th
Well done to everyone who braved the weather today. The results for the EAS 10k are available here.

August 8th
Race day on the horizon folks. We're expecting well over 200 people to participate on Sunday with a choice between the 10k, the rowathlon and the duathlon.

Day entries will be available too in all races, although there are only a limited number for the rowathlon (approximately 6).
August 4th
Not long to go until the Castle Combe races this coming Sunday (10k run, rowathlon, duathlon). We're still taking entries in all three races and race letters for those that have already entered will be out later today.
Entry lists are currently being updated and will be added to the competitor list available here. Race letters for those that have entered are also available here. Please note that timings are subject to minor changes as we have three different events in one afternoon and evening.
August 3rd
Congratulations to Hywel Davies who won the first UK Double Ironman today. Hywel won the Enduroman Double Iron UK by around two hours with his finish time of 21:30.
August 2nd

Huge shout going out to Hywel Davies today after he broke the 9-hour barrier at Ironman Austria at the weekend. Awesome performance as he prepares to take on the UK's first double-ironman in three week's time. Hywel finished 25th overall and was fourth Brit home with his time of 8:52:31. Results from the race can be viewed here.
Strange to think he was specialising in events that lasted around fifteen minutes a few years ago.....
July 10th
DB Max have staged a number of X-Training events and a number of duathlon events since their first event in Bath in 2002 - and now the two disciplines are set to merge!

As promised, I've started my blog, that will hopefully chart my progress from Rimini Duathlon qualifier to World Champion celebrity duathlete, under the watchful eye of Tri-Monkey head coach, Rich Brady. You can check out the blog which will be updated regularly, by clicking Will's Blog.
.....it's just been pointed out to me that whilst Tri-Monkey Coaching have a proven track record with some top-level clients, the genie of the lamp is not yet on their staff....
June 27th
It looks very likely that the Prostate UK Reading Rowathlon will move dates this year to the 16th August due to the athletics track at the venue being replaced this summer.
We will set the date as August 16th now and let you know ASAP if there are any further changes.
June 26th
DB Max are immensely proud to have partnered with Prostate UK for the 2008 Rowing Triathlon Series.

Prostate UK fund medical research as well as training for healthcare professionals, while actively campaigning to raise public awareness on all prostate diseases. With almost half of all men developing some sort of prostate disease later in life, DB Max are proud to be working with Prostate UK and helping them raise this public awareness.

Postal entries for the 2008 series are now available here, with online entry coming soon.

June 4th
DB Max Events welcome Tri-Monkey Coaching on board as a sponsor for our upcoming 2008 Castle Combe duathlons. Rich Brady is the head coach and no stranger to Castle Combe himself, having won his age category and the Trybike TT frame at this year's March Chilly Duathlon.
Tri-Monkey Coaching will now be sponsoring the DB Max Duathlon on August 10th and the Chilly Duathlon on November 23rd, so look out for information on their coaching services at these events. Rich will also be on hand to answer questions on training and racing at the Chilly Duathlon in November. Unfortunately he can't be there in person at the August 10th event as he'll be out at the Beijing Olympics supporting one of the athletes he coaches!!!
Check out www.tri-monkey.co.uk for more information on their coaching services and for updates on some impressive recent achievements by the athletes they coach.
And with DB Max Tri athlete Will Whitmore just sneaking a qualification spot for the Rimini World Duathlon Champs, he's decided to take Rich on as his coach during his preparations. Look out for Will's blog including training and race reports here at the DB Max site in coming weeks.
June 3rd
Entry forms and details for the next event in the DB Max Events calendar are now available on this site.
The summer version of the EAS 10k at Castle Combe and the DB Max Duathlon (5k, 20k, 3k) are all set for Sunday August 10th. And if you like your weekend lie ins, don't worry - it all kicks off in the afternoon!
June 2nd
DB Max Tri and DB Max TT Club athletes have been keeping busy in recent weeks with James Hart and Will Whitmore taking a couple of first and second slots at the Frome and District Wheelers Time Trial. Will's current PB of 23:44 is only ten seconds ahead of James', so there's close rivalry every time they hit the course.
Will also finished 20th in the European Duathlon Champs and 6th at the Westonbirt Tri but it all pales into insignificance compared to the achievements of the most famous athlete to ever race under the DB Max banner.
Hywel Davies, who now races for his sponsor Planet X, won the New Forest Middle Distance Triathlon at the weekend, beating James Gilfillan and Mark Stenning in the process. Gilfillan is a Pro athlete with numerous titles and scalps to his name and Stenning is a previous champion of events like the Bala Middle Distance Triathlon and Ballbuster Duathlon, so Davies was suitably chuffed with his victory.
Check out Hywel's report on the race at Planet X which topped off an intense training week for him with 40 hours of swimming, biking and running in the Alps. The rest of us at DB Max Tri will endeavour to improve and keep up the training, so next time you're off to the Alps Mr Davies, wing us over an invite!

Congratulations to Rebecca Romero on her double gold medal win at the World Cycling Championships.
DB Max fans may remember Rebecca as an elite rower, after she tackled the 'Best of the Best' X-Fit Challenge following her silver medal win in Athens in 2004. See the Transworld Sport coverage of Rebecca's X-Fit efforts here.
We'd like to wish Rebecca all the best in winning a cycling medal at the Beijing Olympics and becoming only the second woman in history to win medals at two different sports at the Summer Olympics.
March 26th

Our friends at Dutchtub brought a Yuba Bike along to the Trybike Chilly Duathlon on Sunday and dared anyone to race on it. Didn't take long for Alex Fisher from The Big Adventure Store to take up the challenge.
The Yuba Bike or Mundo Utility Bike is a multi-terrain cargo bike, designed to carry large quantities of cargo or people. It's got six gears too and as Alex found, capable of reaching a decent old top speed. He banged out the 10 mile course in a shade over 31 minutes and finished 44th overall in the duathlon.

If you're checking in for updates on this weekend's upcoming DB Max event at Castle Combe, the news is that everything's set for the EAS 'Chilly' 10k and the Trybike 'Chilly' Duathlon.
And yep, it's true - Trybike will be providing one of their awesome time trial frames as a duathlon prize on the day! Check out their website at www.trybike.co.uk.
March 5th
Well done to Jason King and Becky Nicholas who took top honours in the Calso Lucky 7s 2008. Over 60 people participated in the X-fit Challenge in Bromley in the seventh year of the event taking on seven minute sets in exercises such as bench press, indoor row and sit-ups. Gary Nicholas is the man behind the challenge and he's taking on the London Marathon next, but carrying a 10kg dumbbell in each hand and completing 100 box steps on a 14 inch box at the end of each mile. Pretty clear where the inspiration for gruelling events in Bromley began.....
Read more about the task Gary's taking on in aid of Whizz-Kidz here.

Few days to go until the EAS 10k and Trybike Chilly Duathlon. There are still online entries available via Active Europe, Runner's World and UK Results, but please note, any entries after March 3rd will not receive a goody bag (medal only).
We're waiting to see what the weather will be like but the chances are it'll be 'chilly'!

Dates for the Lyonheart Training Camps for 2008 are out folks. Check out all the details here.
Nick Wyatt and Sue Regan-Watts were lucky enough to win places on the camp for their performances in the 2007 Rowing Triathlon Series, so they'll be biking up the famous Rocacorba Mountain, running around the beautiful Lake Banyoles with some Concept 2 Rowing thrown in to boot.
If you want to join them, book your slot now with Keith Lyon.
January 25th
DB Max Events are delighted to announce that Trybike have signed up as title sponsors of the 'Chilly' Duathlons in 2008.
As well as providing expert advice, maintenance and bike hire at the duathlons, Trybike will be providing a brand-spanking new time trial frame as a prize at each race (March 9th and November 23rd).
Winning the TT frame is all about getting close to your category record - you'll need to be the competitor with the best relative finish time.
Obviously if someone breaks a category record they stand a good chance of winning, unless another competitor beats an alternative category record by a greater margin. This gives all age group competitors a chance of winning the top prize.
As
an example, if Jane Bloggs does 51.00 in the F 30-39 category, Fred
Bloggs does 46.00 in the M 50-59 category and Chris Smith does 43.00 in the Male
Open, the results will be worked out as follows. Jane has beaten her category
record by 9 seconds and has done 99.707% of the previous record, whilst Fred has
beaten his category record by 6 seconds and has done 99.783% of the previous
record. Chris was 6 seconds out and did 100.233% of his category record, so in
this hypothetical situation, Jane would win the TT frame.
To check out what's up for grabs and to view the rest of the Trybike range,
visit www.trybike.co.uk and if
you're wondering how quick previous competitors have gone, take a look at the
current category records below.

Little slow getting the old Hampshire news to you folks but the results are now available here.
Sam Orgee took top honours and finished Grand Prix champion for 2007 after winning his race with Jason King. Special mention from DB Max to Martin Carter who built on his solid performance at BoB to mix it up with the big boys and finish on the podium with 3rd place.
Becky Ceil was king of the girls beating Sarah Deed by 8 seconds. Jacqui Macquisten who retired this summer came back to compete at the event and looked fastest up until the shoulders, but then pulled out. We're not sure why at this stage but Becky Ceil kept her head and went on to take the victory.
Read the full race report here.
Hats off to Ty Whitlock for a great event and check out the photos and more news at www.worldgymchallenge.com.

Hope you enjoyed the event today folks. Weather was kind for both the EAS Chilly 10k and the EAS Chilly Duathlon and we had a record number of finishers in both events. Well done to you all!
Provisional results up at Stu Web Timing for both the 10k and the duathlon.
It was superb to have the BUSA competitors in the male and female duathlon race and it's fair to say they did pretty well in their first showing at the event. The Male Open top three were also the BUSA top three and there were BUSA girls at second and third overall in the Female Open.
Well done to Rob Whalley for his new course record in the 10k and to Aaron Harris for his course record in the duathlon. Oli Mott had a good day too with a second place finish in both the 10k and the duathlon. That gave him a new combo record of 1:17:06.
So course records on the day saw £50 cash prizes go to Rob Whalley, Aaron Morris and Oli Mott. Well done to Team Bath who retained the Run Club Challenge Trophy in the 10k and it looks like Bath University may have just pipped Loughborough University to top spot in the Duathlon Team Challenge (first three over the line score).
It was a close run battle in the inter-varsity memorial challenge between Birmingham University and Bath University, where the average time of all the athletes racing scores. Bath University took the honours though by around 37 seconds.

Doha in Qatar was then the final stop for DB Max, where we met up with X-Trainer and Fitness Manager Asela Jayaweera, to discuss future DB Max events in 2008.
And how did the competitions go? Well Michelle Parsons was the star of the show, finishing 2nd in the Elite Race in Malaysia and then making her X-Training comeback in Dubai and winning the Female Open title there. What a trip!

Folks, how's your treadmill training..? Need some tips on how to make the running machine less boring and turn it into a valuable training tool..? Winter's coming so it could be the perfect time to start making the most of running indoors.
Well, top X-Fit athlete, triathlete, and Tough Guy competitor Hywel Davies is the master of treadmill training - untouchable in the 800m run @ 10% discipline during his X-Fit years and the current world record holder for the 50k treadmill run - and now he's giving others the chance to benefit from his experience.

August 9th
Is there a downside to traffic-free, multi-lap,
racing...? With the Reading Rowathlon
less than a month away, it's time for that super-fast, super-sprint training, to
prepare you for that all-out blast around the cycle velodrome at Palmer Park.
The one problem previous competitors may have experienced in cycling the 14 laps, is remembering which lap they're on and how many laps to go. Well in 2007, DB Max is committed to improving the rowathlon series for all and this year at Reading, we'll be helping you count!
Competitors will be provided with a lap counter to attach to their bikes, complete with button to press each time they complete a lap. There's no need to remember the lap number any more.
The counter is only 14g in weight and 35mm x 27 mm in size, and will attach with a strap to your handlebars or aerobars. It also beeps when you press the button so you are aware that it has registered the count.
Multi-lap rowathlon racing just got easier................
August 8th
Results from Sunday's 3k row race are detailed below.

Round 2 is only weeks away folks. Yep the Castle Combe Day of Sport and the British Rowathlon Series 2007 will soon be on us.
And we have some news from our Penny Farthing pedalling duathlete, Dave Preece, who'll be taking on the DB Max Duathlon. He's pictured below in his race gear and we hear he's not planning to just make up the numbers either. He'll be racing!
July 17th
Less than a fortnight to go until X-Fit's version of the FA Cup. Excitement is building and the male and female seeds have been announced - that means that these guys cannot meet in the first round. Check them out below:
Male - Mark Elliot, Cassius Frankson, Kirk Gibbons, Vito Graffagnino, Nik Kandola, Jason King, Roscoe Nash, Darren Robson, Robert Volpe, Will Whitmore.
Female - Jo Alexander, Trudi Hawksworth, Sue Hemsley, Jacqui Macquisten.
Well done to Vito Graffagnino for making the seeds in his first ever race. More news at www.octathalon.com.

Fancy lining up alongside a GB athlete?
Rob Whalley, who has represented GB five times at the World X-Country Championships and is the British Milers Club 4k and 3k record holder, is running the EAS Castle Combe 10k on August 5th.
He's recently the South West X-Country Champion 2007, so be interesting to see just how fast he can go over 10k on the flat.
July 2nd
No sooner had we asked the question last week than
someone answered...
Philippa Crocker has answered the call, entering the EAS 10k, the Castle
Combe Rowathlon and the DB Max Duathlon all on the same day.
That'll be an impressive treble!

DB Max are looking forward to seeing Nic
Fleming in action in his first rowathlon at Castle Combe on August 5th. Nic has
a 2k row PB on the Concept 2 Ergometer
of 5:54.9 so could be a good bet to post the fastest 3k row time of the
day.
As the row distances are the same for the stand alone event and the rowathlon at
Castle Combe, anyone who wants to enter their 3k time in the stand alone
challenge can do so (at no extra charge).
Please let us know if you'd like to do this (email)
and we'll arrange the waves so that rowathletes and rowers all start at the same
time.
If you want to enter both races individually however, you can request a later
wave in the rowathlon, so that you have plenty of time to recover following your
row race.
June 26th
Lot's of DB Max X-Training and Multisport photos from recent years available to view here. There's also a new discussion board and regular updates on upcoming DB Max events.
June 25th
Do you think the DB Max Duathlon might be a bit of a challenge...? Well how about doing it on a Penny Farthing....? Check out Dave Preece's plans here.
And good news if you're looking for help recovering after your race at the Castle Combe 'Day of Sport'. Jan Lawry of www.jrlsportservices.com
will be offering free post-race massage to 10k runners, rowathletes and duathletes alike!June 22nd
Well folks, we've had a number of requests from some of our keener rowathletes out there, who are keen to have a crack at the duathlon too on August 5th. So this is what we've done:
Rowathlon Waves will now be from 11.30am.
Duathlon (mass start) will now be at 3.30pm.
We aim to please everyone, including the extra keen amongst you, so hopefully this will do the trick. Please let us know if you want to do both and would like a rowathlon race slot as early as possible.

Great day of racing at LA Fitness in Sale on Saturday at the 2007 Dragons event.
Results and splits are being processed at World Gym Challenge and should appear soon. Category winners in the main event were Kirk Gibbons (Male Masters), Sam Orgee (Male Open), Sue Regan (Female Masters) and Kirsty Read (Female Open). Congratulations to all of them and hats off to Sue Regan for managing to compete so well despite organising the event too. And a big well done to the Intermedate Category winners, Phil Rawle and Samantha Saunt.
Run Republic sponsored the event and the first Run Republic 'Special Performance Awards' went to Dan Edge in the male event and Fran Fulham in the female event. Dan won a Nathan 5k Waist Pack
and Fran won a Nathan Elite Waist Carrier. Run Republic are also offering 10% discount to X-Trainers on all products on their site from now until the UKXTA event in July. Just enter promotional code Crosstrain when ordering. So we reckon there's going to be some big changes in the UK rankings following the Dragons event and there's also going to be some clear leaders in the Grand Prix too. But it's all eyes on the Octathalon Cup next at the end of July. X-Fit's version of the FA Cup all in a day at the Chippenham Olympiad. We'll see you there!
June 15th
We've just heard from Steve Watts and everything's set for the Dragons Gauntlet X-Training Challenge on Saturday.
The line-up might change very slightly as it seems there's a tough bout of lurgy doing the rounds, but the race calendar is chocka block, the LA Fitness Club is all set to receive over 100 competitors, the judges are all briefed and itching to go, the T-shirts have arrived, the Run Republic Clothes and EAS Sports Nutrition Stand is ready and it's just the final wait now until race day.
In addition, Steve and Sue have organised a massage therapist to provide pre and post-race massage at the event and the LA Fitness bar will be open for tea, coffee and refreshments.
Directions and details available here. Counting down folks......

Some of you might find this news snippet a bit bizzare but we thought you might be interested to know that swans actually work out.
DB Max recently moved home and office and are now situated immediately adjacent to a mill pond, complete with two swans. They've never left the pond since we've been here, but every morning one of them swims to one end of the pond, beats his wings and takes off along the surface for about 20m, then lands in the other corner of the pond before repeating the exercise a few times. Following this, he then sits in the middle of the pond and completes repetitions of about 10 wing beats while stretching up out of the water.
He is a fully grown adult male, so not learning to fly, but is happy living in the pond, so has no need to fly anywhere else. Obviously doesn't want to let himself go though so works out every morning to keep himself in shape. We're considering offering him some DB Max Remote Coaching...
There's also a couple of moorhens living in the pond but they're just lazy buggers.

Busy weekend for DB Max and Run Republic as we went along to support a couple of events with the DB Max Event Racking and the Run Republic Clothes Stand.Saturday saw the Keevil 10k take place near Trowbridge in West Wiltshire - a 2 lap flat course on the Keevil Airfield. Good organisation along with superb weather and the addition of kids' races (from toddlers upwards), as well as the beer tent and entertainment for children, all added to a great event.
The general consensus from those with GPS monitors was that the 10k run was at least 150m long, but 227 people finished the course nevertheless and many of them grabbed a bargain at the Run Republic stand. The event is already planned for 2008, but check out this year's results by clicking Keevil 10k.
Sunday saw the first staging of the Westonbirt Triathlon, a pool based sprint triathlon, comprising a 400m swim, a 22k bike and a 5k run. James Higgs was the man at the helm and DB Max went along to support with the DB Max Racking.
A very scenic bike ride and run made this a great event and James assures us that this will become an annual race. Check out this year's results by clicking Westonbirt Triathlon and DB Max Racking will be going along to support James' Malmesbury Triathlon at the end of August (around 300 competitors).

The sport for all ages! Yep, we'll say it again. X-Training is not just for the young. The big event everyone's talking about from the weekend is the Fitness Extreme X-Training Challenge and the two fastest times of the day, were by Jacqui Macquisten and Kirk Gibbons. February 10th
Last Saturday saw the first X-Fit event if the year with the Ironman 2007 event in Manchester. A top event on every level by all accounts so well done to the organisers and of course to all the competitors. Check out Stuart Leng's race report below.'Heavy snow in the Midlands and Wales on Thursday and Friday brought fears that this year's Ironman might have to be cancelled. Fortunately, the snow had disappeared by Saturday morning and those travelling on the day had a much easier journey than those who tried to be smart and travel on Friday. A full race line up of 72 competitors were scheduled to attend and it was a fantastic response that there was only one no-show.
For the first time in its history, there was an Intermediate category and 8 ladies took to the start line. In the first race, an interesting newcomer was Jenny Davies-Hoare, who entered at the last minute and is trained by ex-Ultrfit Masters Champion Phil Talbot. She did well to finish 6th, just behind another newcomer, Sally Cooper, who is the General Manager of Life of Leisure in Worcester. Just 9 seconds out of the medals was Penny Bunton from Gorton, who picked up the Best Female Performance Award. 12 months ago, Penny was an overweight, smoking couch potato and it goes to show what anyone can achieve with effort and determination. Carolyne Waywell came 3rd following her usual close tussle with Hayley Deighan and only 14 seconds seperated the Dragons clubmates. A surprise winner to many was 18 year old newcomer Samantha Saunt who scorched down the course to win by 70 seconds in 23:56. It was no surprise to her aunty and uncle, Lance and Trudi Hawksworth and she has obviously inherited their ability and passion for the sport.
14 competitors lined up for the Men's Intermediate, including 5 Masters. There were some excellent close races throughout this category. Mark Rudkins from Calso took 3rd place in the Masters in 26:25. His race was followed by a momentous tussle between Calso clubmates John Currell and Russell Stenning which was only settled on the Weight Carry.John took 2nd place in the Masters in 21:59 and Russell 2nd in the Open in 21:48 In the penultimate race, there was another very tight encounter between Jamie Fraser and Pete Abraham, with Jamie securing 3rd place in the Open by 14 seconds in 23:35. The final race, although disappointing as a spectacle decided the winners of both categories, with Phil Rawle from Life Leisure taking 1st place in the Open in 21:26 and Paul Morton taking 1st place in the masters in 19:20
An excellent line up of 16 competitors wre on view in the Ladies Ironman. Valerie Ritchie took nearly 9 minutes off last year's time, narrowly beating Michele Wakefield in the first race. Chris Rayner beat her personal best to take 4th in the masters in 42:13. The popular Francis Walton smashed her time from last year to take an excellent 2nd place in the masters in 38:29.The 4th race brought another new star to the Ladies category, when Marie Mitchell from Dragons, Derby, trained by Kirk Gibbons produced a fantastic time of 35;18 to take 3rd in the Open.Wendy Terry had a very solid race against Gill Watson to take 5th in 35:54 only 2 seconds behind Trudi Hawksworth, who had a disappointing race against Kirsty Reid, due to illness. Gill put up her usual gutsy performance to take 3rd in the Masters in 38:42. Hayley Powell and Teresa Clixby-Smith had their usual close race, but both would have been disappointed with their times. One of the races of the day followed between Sue Regan-Watts and Becky Ciel. This was only settled on the weight carry when Sue put the weights down by mistake, thinking she had finished, when she had 2 more studio lenghts to complete. Sue took first in the masters with a superb time of 33:08. Becky, who has been in a rich vein of from, took 2nd place in an excellent 32:59. The winner of the Open was the very impressive Kirsty Reid in 32:40. Kirsty doesn't appreciate how good she really is and will be the one they all have to beat if they want to win the first Grand Prix title.
32 men took part in the Ironman, 19 being Masters or Veterans. In the 4th race, ex-Dragons General Manager, Mel Brooke, set by far the fastest time of 34:57 which ultimately gave him an excellent 8th place in the Masters. Alan Storrow was only 4 seconds behind him in the next race. Race 7 provided a surprise 3rd place for newcomer Shane Fisher from Bristol in an excellent time of 34:40. Martin Carter from One on One at Evesham was only 7 seconds behind Shan's time in the next race. One of the best performance of the day came from Veteran Gary Nicholls in the next race with a superb time of 33:56, which would have given him 3rd in the Open! Gary just seems to get better with age and desrevedly won the Best Performance award by a male competitor. Another of the closest races followed this with Life of Leisure's Mark Ruff beating Farouk Vawda by a mere 3 seconds. There was a good time of 32:25 from the consistent Nelson Anderson, but Phil Piggott was flying behind him to clinch a superb 2nd place in the masters in 30:49. Phil, one of the originals, who used to organise the famous Tropicana event has certainly brought some much needed passion and colour to the sport. Andy Lett had a titanic tussle against Steve Oxlade, with Steve securing 3rd place in the Masters in 31:36 by a margin of 29 seconds. Two of the favourites, Steve Watts and Gary Nicholas had a battle royal in their race, but their final times were disappointing and they finished outside the medals. There was plenty of speculation as to whether Life of Leisure's Sam Orgee could repeat his Gorton performance and he answered that speculation in a positive manner by leaving Roscoe Nash in his wake in a time of 28:30 which would have beaten Micky White last year. Two unanswered questions remained! Could Kirk wipe away the memory of last years nightmare and how quick could the greatest competitor that this fantastic sport has known go down what was for him untried territory. Not surprisingly, both were answered very positively, with Kirk winning Masters in a superb time of 29:19 and Hywel winning the Open in an unbelievable time of 26:35. A fantastic finale to a great days racing and the crowd loved every minute of it. Onwards to Calso and no doubt another top class event.'

This year's British Rowathlon Series will include some exciting new races and developments, with details coming here soon. The event will also include a Concept 2 Row Grand Prix and other events too (5k run, 1 mile run, cycle race, etc). Check out the BTA Website for more details in the meantime.

We might well offer a prize!
January 11th
Anyone out there thinking of doing their first X-Fit event in 2007...? There's no better time to get into the sport, with the all-new Grand Prix in conjunction with Calso Fitness, Netfit's Roscoe Nash beavering away on exercise form guidelines, World Gym Challenge up and running, DB Max running international competitions and of course the UKXTA working hard to take the sport to greater and greater heights.
So if you like the sound of it and want to know what it's like to get involved, check out the report below from X-Fit newcomer Rebecca Robert.
"The first time I watched a cross-training event, I was really struck by the intensity of the sport - by its nature, the combination of disciplines means that you have to be a really strong all-rounder - it builds you physically and mentally.
So, I was inspired and for me, the challenge was on…I wanted to give myself a good base to start from and so trained specifically for the Hampshire Sprint course. My enthusiasm meant that I was really dedicated and trained at least five times a week (mostly with my training buddy Emily and with some great expert advice from Steve Dowse). However, whilst out in Dubai to watch the DB Max ‘Best of the Best’ International, I was convinced by the three Steves (Dowse, Watts and Oxlade) and Will Whitmore to enter the Novice. I was so nervous on the day of the race, because no matter how many races you have watched you still worry about what might happen in your race… would I get my foot stuck in the rowing machine or would I fall off the treadmill? Would I even finish the course? But I am really pleased to say that the training paid off for both Dubai & Hampshire and taking first place in both was a very proud moment.
In hindsight, there was no need for any nervousness at all - the best thing about cross training is the atmosphere which can only be described as a welcoming, warm & supportive community. Everyone involved in the sport is really encouraging, both when you’re on the course and also in the bar afterwards! Although it is a competitive sport, everyone I have encountered is keen to share tips about training and general ways to improve. It is really inspiring to watch the Open and Masters races and the high standards that each individual sets for themselves.
So to inspire all you ‘would-be’ cross-trainers out there, I would say give it a go, you have nothing to lose and everything to gain, both physically and mentally! Good luck to you!"
January 10th
There's only one real head judge who lays the law down in X-Fit and causes athletes to lose sleep the night before an event. He's stopped the likes of Hywel Davies, Cassius Frankson, Will Whitmore and Darren Robson in their tracks, docking reps that don't meet the standards, no matter how big the race is.
Well the bad news for X-Fit athletes is, that when big Tom Whitmore retires, there'll be a new even bigger man to take his place. Sebastian Whitmore was born at 11am today, weighing in at 10lb 4oz. First thing he did was look for food, so he already understands the importance of post-workout energy replacement.
DB Max sends congratulations to the family and a huge well done to Verity Whitmore, and we'll let you know when Seb completes his first press-up (straight arms at the top of course).
January 8th
Just to let you know folks. There was a slight problem with the online entry set-up for the Chilly Duathlon, so that fees were being added to the total for non BTA members. Apologies for this, but it has now been corrected and anyone who paid the fee with their entry will be refunded.

Looking forward to next year there's details of the X-Fit Ironman 2007 on Saturday 10th February available here.
December 3rd
A superb day of racing at the Hamps National X-Fit on Saturday. Becky Ceil was back to her best to win the Female Open and Will Whitmore finished first in the Male Open. Sylburn Miller won the Male Masters with the second fastest time of the day and Sue Regan won the Female Masters. Rebecca Robert's X-Fit induction continued as she followed up on her novice win in Dubai with the sprint win in Hampshire. Intermediate results and splits coming soon.
Highlight of the day was the appearance of some new blood in the sport in the form of a group of 16 year old lads who showed excellent early promise. We look forward to seeing more of the 'Itchin Eagles'.
November 29th
Full results for the Chilly Duathlon and DB 10k are now available here.
November 28th
Good news for Saturday is that the party after the Hampshire event is now free to all those competing in the day. Black-tie is optional but dress should be smart. No Elvis suits!
November 27th
The line-up for Saturday's X-fit event in Hampshire is now available by clicking here.
And the traditional end of year X-trainer's party will be a black-tie do with disco and buffet and if anything like last year, a real christmas cracker. At £20 a head it's a bargain to boot.
November 26th
Well the Chilly Duathlon wasn't too Chilly as it turned out yesterday and by the time the DB 10k kicked off, the sun was out at the Castle Combe circuit. That hadn't looked very likely first thing with torrential rain sweeping the country and unfortunately causing a few traffic problems on the M25 and the M4. With competitors travelling from Cardiff, Llanelli, Swansea, Devon, Luton and Bromley this caused a few concerns but with both race starts delayed by 25 minutes, all but two of the 10k runners and one of the duathletes made it to the line.
There were a few odd sights during the day's proceedings, including a gorilla on a bike (with helmet) and a heap of athletes taking a hot bath together outside in November.
There's some details below of category and overall winners, with full provisional results available by clicking 10k or duathlon.
And don't forget the DB Max Photography Service where you'll be able to view all the race shots, as well as presentation photos and 'dutchtub' shots in coming days.

A
superb day on Pen Y Fan in memory of our great friend Phil McConnell on
Saturday. All the runners made it to the summit of the first peak and a reading
followed before continuing to peaks 2, 3 and 4.
The memorial run will be an annual event for runners, walkers and joggers so put Saturday November 3rd 2007 in the diary.
Sean Blyth took some photos of the event and his report is available here.

And despite one event being in Dubai and the other being in Southampton, there's already athletes signed up to both!
And elsewhere there's the Chilly Duathlon on November 26th. Anyone going for the hat-trick on these three events will be able to eat hundreds of mince pies at Xmas...!

Well done to Andy Lett and Jacqui Macquisten who won the Health Club Games finals on Saturday. Sounds like Andy had been doing a spot of plank training. He maintained the position for 26 minutes! Full results available soon here.
And well done to Dave Koss who won his category and finished fourth overall at the Thruxton Mass Attack Duathlon on Sunday. Looks like he could be hard to beat at the Chilly. Full results can be viewed here.

Next month sees the first anniversary of the death of Phil McConnell, a great friend to many and a keen X-trainer and multisport athlete.
DB Max and friends will be marking the anniversary by following Hywel Davies up Pen Y Fan in Wales (and trying to keep him in sight), just like Phil did a couple of years back.
All those who knew Phil are welcome and although it's a tough run, it's just about having a go.
More details available here.

Not

The final 2006 series rankings are now available at the Rowathlon page along with the Marlow results.
A huge well done and thank you to everyone who competed in this year's series and we'd just like to say a massive, massive congratulations to David Koss. Having spoken to a number of younger male competitors over the last few weeks, we know that Dave's performances are a real inspiration to many.
So that's it for the Concept 2 British Rowathlon Series 2006 folks. We really hope you enjoyed it. DB Max will be bringing you a new and improved series next year, so please watch this space for details. If you'd like to submit comments and suggestions for the 2007 series, or feedback on the 2006 series, please email us here.
And if you finished in the top three in your category this year, we're offering you a free entry to the Chilly Duathlon on November 26th, where the series presentation will be held. We'd love to see you there!
October 1st
Well it was pretty darn wet and windy at Marlow today but that didn't stop over 400 competitors completing the course.
And it seems rowathlon is not a sport dominated by the young. Fastest girl home was F40 competitor Michelle Parsons and fastest man home was M50 competitor David Koss. Awesome stuff!
Full results will be available as soon as we get them, along with the British Rowathlon Series 2006 rankings.
However, we can confirm that this year's overall series winning female is Su Wilmot with a maximum possible score of three overall wins. Congratulations Su.
And the male winner.... well it's David Koss. Yep, he scored a maximum possible three overall wins and despite Paul Holdaway's awesome form, David beat him for the overall title. Massive congratulations! Fantastic to have a 51 year old showing the younger guys how it's done.

Full results will be published on this site once we have them from the organisers and the rankings will be updated too.
Just Marlow to go in this year's series folks! Unfortunately entries are now closed for this event but if you are one of the 475 competitors taking part, we'll see you there!
September 24th
There's a new name on the X-Fit circuit folks. Sam Orgee won the Gorton Grueller in his first ever competition on Saturday, an amazing achievement and one we're sure hasn't been done before. We hear that Sam is a semi-professional rugby player and was discovered by X-Training veteran Stuart Leng. Congratulations to Sam and to Gary Nicholas who took second place and to Kirsty Wright who won the female event.
Full results and news coming soon. There's still a couple more X-Fit comps planned for 2006. The Hampshire Event of course and an old favourite returns on November 24th in Dubai. Stay fit and watch this pace.

The Big 50,000!
That's how many unique visitors we've had to the DB Max website folks. That's 10,000 since February and a current average of around 170 per day.
Big thanks to all our readers and keep logging on. We'll continue to advertise events, bring you the gossip and pictures from the X-Training & Rowathlon world, update you with the news and results from races and also fill you in on the progress of our two XT and multisport legends Hywel Davies and Michelle Parsons.
And there's a big XT event to tell you about right now. The Hampshire National XT Challenge is one of the highlights of the Fitness Comp calendar and is all set to be staged again this year on December 2nd. It's a fantastic event, run by a couple of the sport's finest, Ty Whitlock and Marc Carson and their team down in Southampton.
Last year was attended by all the top competitors in the sport and included possibly the best post-event party ever seen. There's also a team event which was a cracker last year - there's simply no better way to finish your year!
Previous winners include Adam Horder, Will Whitmore, Rob Volpe and Jacqui Macquisten and with a healthy group of talent in the sport at present, there could be some new names on the cups in 2006. Who will finish the year as Britain's Fittest Man and Woman?
Wanna be part of it...? Email Ty Whitlock now or click here for more info.

He's completing the British Rowathlon Series this year to raise raise money for his chosen charity - STEPS (chosen because Kevan and Gillians' 10 year old son Kai was born with a lower limb disability). There's more information and a link in the attached email below.
Good luck Kevan!
>>Dear all
This year my husband has decided to run five races in the British Rowathlon Series - totalling nearly 125km. There's more information on the site (link below) but we'd love your support for a charity that is close to us all in the Jones family.
Steps: helping families with individuals that have lower limb conditions.
Please visit his page and have a laugh at the picture, and then make a contribution.
Feel free to pass this on to others that might be interested in supporting this charity as Kevan has a big target to reach. Thanks in advance.

Only eight days to go folks so what's the news?
Well there's an impressive line-up of appearances with World Champion Concept 2 Rower, Graham Benton, flexing his muscles, as well as Britain's Fittest Man, Hywel Davies and Britain's Fittest Woman, Michelle Parsons coming along.
We've got a bouncy castle and face painting for kids so you can bring your little ones along, great prizes from PowerBREATHE and EAS and of course flights from Concept 2.
Champion Chip will be providing electronic timing for the Triathlons and the 1 Mile Run and you can still enter these or the 2.5k Row and 1k Knock-out Cycle Challenge at Reading Rowathlon.
Wave times for the day will be posted here this evening and we hope to see you there!
August 24th
Due to the success of the female race at Castle Combe 2 and by popular demand, we'll be doing a similar race for the men at Reading. So the top 15-20 seeded male athletes, regardless of age, will all be going in the same wave in the final race of the day.
Will we get M40s & M50s beating the M20s & M30s...? Should produce some exciting battles, just like we saw from the women last time out.
And don't forget there's also a 1 Mile Run Challenge, a Junior Rowathlon (750m row, 6k bike, 800m run), a 2.5k Row Challenge, a 1k (2 lap) Knock-out Cycle Challenge and a 100m Sprint Race to boot. More details and registration options here.
August 23rd
Huge congratulations to Hywel Davies, who finished 9th overall and won his category M30-34 at IronMan UK in an incredible time of 9:13:10. With a 2.4 mile swim of 55:57, a 112 mile bike of 4:59:16 and a 26.2 mile run of 3:13:11, Hywel showed that after just a couple of seasons concentrating on the sport, he is now one of the big boys in IronMan. Full results can be viewed here.
Hywel has now qualified for the 'big one' and will be concentrating all his efforts on training for the Kona Hawaii IronMan.
With his huge range of diverse multi sport talents, Hywel simply must be the all-round fittest man in the world (see what Hywel had already achieved in 2002 here). DB Max would like to hear from anyone who knows of a contender for that title and would like to wish Hywel all the best in his preparations for Kona.
August 18th
So Castle Combe 2 has been and gone for another year and we were treated to some great races in many of the categories. We had 6 flights up for grabs this round and details of the winners are below (M 40 - 49 results to follow).
The flight prizes were awarded to category winners who also achieved fast finish times relative to the age groups above and below them.
Well done to everyone who participated and the prize ceremony will be at Reading on September 9th (including spot prizes for outstanding performances).
To sign up for that awesome event click Reading Rowathlon Day of Sport.
